Kilkenny Club of the Year 2018

We are so proud to have won the KCLR96FM and David Buggy Motors “Club of the Year” for 2018.

Ten local clubs made the shortlist and it went out to public vote over the Christmas and New Year break with the winner announced this morning.

The clubs nominated were: Kilfane Handball Club, Kilkenny City Harriers, Callan Boxing Club, Kilkenny Storm, Tullogher Rosbercon GAA Club, Ballyhale Shamrocks GAA Club, Dunnamaggin GAA Club, Evergreen FC and Kilkenny City Ladies Gaelic Football Club.

Our club had a fantastic year in 2018 winning the Kilkenny Intermediate title, the Leinster Intermediate Club Final and now look forward to an All Ireland Semi Final later this month.

We also enjoyed huge success at U13 level, winning the U13A Hurling Championship and winning the Primary School’s Roinn A Hurling and Football. And in December we won the U21 Roinn B Championship.

In total, 11 cups came to the club over the year and two Roinn A Camogie titles in U14 and U16. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us, this year will live long in the memory of our wonderful loyal supporters!

U13 Medal Presentation

Last Friday night, December 28th, our victorious U13’s were presented with their medals in Ballycallan Hall. In what was a great year for this bunch of hurlers, they won the Roinn A Country Cup in both Hurling and Football and the Cumann na mBunscoil Roinn A Final with St. Aidan’s NS. These boys were also very successful in the club competitions, winning the Roinn B Football Championship and the Roinn A Hurling Championship and the Lisdowney 7’s Shield.

They are the first county club to win the Tom Ryall Cup and it was fitting that members of the Ryall family were in attendance on the night. MC for the night, Club Charimain Dave O’Neill, presented all the players and Billy Ryan and John Byrne (Bord na nÓg Chairman) were on hand to present the medals and acknowledge their achievements.

Happy Christmas

We would like to wish all our players, managers, selectors, officers, volunteers and members a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas. 2018 has been an amazing year for our club with success at many different levels and we still have an Intermediate All Ireland Semi Final to to look forward to in January. Thanks to everyone for their support in 2018 and we look forward to an even better 2019 !

U21 Roinn B Hurling Championship Final – 16/12/2018

Report by Philomena Brennan

2018 – What a year for Graigue-Ballycallan GAA. After winning accolades in Intermediate, Junior B and U13, the baton was passed to the U21’s on Sunday last 16thy December. After several disappointments at this grade over the last few years hopes were high as the supporters gathered in a cool but dry Pairc Lachtain in Freshford.

Despite desperate rain over the preceding days, great credit is due to the officials in Freshford for having the pitch in remarkable condition for this eagerly awaited clash against Bennettsbridge.

U21 Roinn B HC Semi Final 8/12/2018- GBC v Conahy Shamrocks

Report by Philomena Brennan

The U-21 Hurling Championship Semi-Final took place in MW Hire Park, Dunmore on Saturday last. The match against Conahy Shamrocks was played under lights and while credit has to go to the ground staff for having the playing surface in excellent condition, the weather conditions could only be described as horrendous. Sweeping rain and high winds made hurling next to impossible and both sides have to be commended for the performances they put in.
