Graigue Ballycallan U14s played Dicksboro in the Roinn A Hurling Championship First Round in John Locke Park last week. After having a successful year to date, winning 3 out of their 4 league games and qualifying for the County Féile semi-final, the boys were hopeful of going well in the championship proper. The management knew they were up against a formidable Dicksboro side who were hot favourites to win out this Grade.

Graigue Ballycallan, Galmoy, Freshford and Tullaroan
Graigue Ballycallan U10’s were invited to Tullaroan’s Field Day to play in a mini blitz on Sunday 29th August. With a full squad available, we were confident of a good performance and it didn’t disappoint with the team making it to the final.
The first game was against Freshford and Graigue made great use of the wind in the first half, enjoying a comfortable lead to the break. The wind assisted Freshford in the second half as they gradually clawed back their deficit. However, a few well-crafted points from Ben Young and relentless defending from Paidí, Sean and Robbie kept the home team ahead to the final whistle. Score ended Graigue Ballycallan 0–7 to Freshford 1–2 and this win was made all the more enjoyable as the team had to dig deep to hold their lead. Read more

Our U10 boys travelled again this year to O’Loughlin Park to play in a mini blitz on Thursday 19th August and a good performance was crucial after the comprehensive defeat at the hands of Paulstown the week before in Kilmanagh. Although it must be noted that on that same evening well over half the team were unavailable because of holidays and hence with a relative small group every chap’s absence had an impact. Read more

The U16 GBC team had been drawn to play a Preliminary Round in this year’s Roinn B Championship and this outing took place last Monday 25th July in Bennettsbridge. Their opponents were Barrow Rangers and the locals expected a tough encounter, which was to prove very prophetic indeed. GBC were forced to line out minus a few players due to injury which has been an issue the mentors have had to deal with all season.

Our U8 hurlers have had a busy time over the last few weeks.
First up we paid a visit to John Lockes in Callan. We had a strong panel which was split into 2 teams. We enjoyed victory in 3 out of the 4 matches and the boys had a great time.
There was some great Goalkeeping on view from both teams. All the lifting practice that the boys have been doing is certainly paying dividends with some great solo runs and scoring, particularly from midfield.

After 7 weeks of a break for exams the Minors faced a busy July. Like all clubs at this time of year, battling and coping with the long-term break and players on holidays becomes an issue.
We in Graigue-Ballycallan are no different so with some niggling injures and players on holidays we faced a nervous July.

The final round of the U-16 Roinn B League took place in balmy conditions in Tom Ryall Park last Friday 8th July 2016. This was the last match to be played in the group and GBC were placed second in the group before the encounter. With three players on the injured list, the mentors had to turn to some of the younger boys to field a team, but as usual they were not found wanting in their efforts and enthusiasm for the battle.
