Hurling Updates: U13, U15 and U17 training update

The GAA have announced a roadmap to recommencing training and games and this includes U13, U15 and U17 Championship. The club are working through the details at the moment and we are currently planning to go back training on the week of 29th June 2020 and will train on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. We hope lots of our players have been doing some hurling and physical work over the break but if anyone needs a plan over the next 2 weeks we have attached a strength programme below based on bodyweight exercises. This includes You Tube videos of the correct technique. If any player would like to start some aerobic work, a good target would be to run 1km three times a week at a steady pace. All this work will prevent soreness/stiffness and injury when we get back to the field.

U11 Report 2019

Under 11 2019 was a highly enjoyable and successful year with a great bunch of young hurlers. The older members of the panel were also on the Under 13 panel so they were very busy.
We started back in February training under lights in the Loreto and then back to the pitch in late March. Our first blitz of the year was the CBS blitz in Palmerstown where we played Tullaroan, Gowran and Dunnamaggin, winning all 3 games. Our player of the day was Oran Hoyne who received a CBS jersey. Our U13’s competed in Roinn B in both Football and Hurling in 2019. We returned to training last February under lights in Loreto Astro turf, then returning to Tom Ryall Park in late March. We used the Football League to give game time to all the panel while getting ready for the Championship in April. We lost to Glenmore 4-6 to 3-2 in the opening round. Most of the panel enjoyed an extended run with St. Aidan’s school team which brought them to a Quarter Final in Roinn B and a Semi Final in the Country Cup.

Our league campaign ran from mid June to end of July. We were very competitive in all our matches, winning two, drew one and lost four to finish mid table. We prepared well for championship over the next few weeks where we played a fancied Galmoy/Windgap side. Again this young team gave everything for the jersey but lady luck deserted the boys who bowed out on a scoreline of: Galmoy/Windgap 3-9, GBC 1-9.( We were short 3 players due to holidays)

With the dates of League and Championship clashing with summer holidays, management never got a chance to play their strongest 15, nonetheless it gave everyone on the panel an opportunity to stake a place on the championship team. Overall, management were very happy with how the players carried themselves throughout these matches, the panel was very young with 5 U11’s starting v Galmoy/Windgap. A number of these players were involved in U14 and U12 tournaments throughout the year as well. Thanks to the ladies who looked after first aid during the year, Claire Roberts (Juvenile Secretary) and Maurice Ronan for their help during the year.

U13B Hurling League 26/07/2019 – GBC V Piltown

GBC U13’s travelled to Piltown to play our final league game on 26th July. Again GBC got off to a poor start conceding 1-3 before we eventually got on the scoreboard after 15 minutes. Our backs began to get on top which allowed more possession for the forwards, both sides traded points for the remaining half . HT Score:  Piltown 1-7, GBC 0-5. The 2nd half was evenly balanced when Piltown’s No.14 won possession on the edge of the square and sent an unstoppable shot to the net with 7 minutes remaining. At the other end Piltown’s keeper pulled off two point blank saves to deny us a goal. Overall Piltown were a stronger/balanced team and ran out deserving winners. Our annual U14 Declan Byrne Memorial Tournament will take place this Sunday 4th August commencing at 10am in Tom Ryall Park, Kilmanagh. Details of match times and Group details below:

12.30pm    Shield Final – runners-up

Games will be 15 minutes a-side, umlimited subs, full hurling, 2 points for win, 1 point for a draw.
If teams are level it will go on head-to-head, then scoring difference
Refreshments will be provided

U10 Camogie Blitz – Castlecomer – 20/07/2019

Well done to our Under 10 girls who came home with 2 great wins after a great morning in Castlecomer. The girls all played so well, all of the hard work they have put in at training really showed! There was great passing which lead to some good scores. We are so proud of them!

U13 B Hurling League, 5th Round – 19/07/2019

GBC U13’s made the journey south last Tuesday to play Tullogher Rosbercon in Round 5 of the Roinn B Hurling League. The home side started brightly scoring 1-2 in the opening 5 minutes, our boys worked hard to get themselves back into the match and only trailed by 3 points nearing the end of the first half only to concede 1-1 on the stroke of half time.  Half Time GBC 0-4, Tullogher 2-5.

Round 4 of the Roinn B League saw Ggraigue Ballycallan take on Glenmore on Friday 12th in a sunny Tom Ryall Park. A minutes silence was impeccably observed prior to throw-in for the late Tom Brennan who’s nephew Martin plays with this team. 
GBC started very well scoring 1-1 in the opening 5 minutes, a goal coming from Ben Young after a lovely handpass from Keelan Lynch. Glenmore responded with the next 3 points before Ben McEvoy won possession and crossed for midfielder Paidí Egan who raised the green flag to leave it GBC 2-1, Glenmore 0-3 after 15 minutes. Glenmore scored 2 points, before Ben Young buried a goal from 20 yards.  Half Time GBC 3-2, Glenmore 0-6. Read more

Graigue Ballycallan U13’s played Rower Inistoige in Round 3 of the Roinn B League recently. Confidence was high going into the game after winning our opening two games. The loss of several players due to holidays told as the team never reached the previous level of performance in the opening two games. First half was tight with both defences on top, our only score of the half came from Ben McEvoy (0-1).
