Minor B Hurling Championship – Preliminary Round – 1/09/2021

The Graigue Ballycallan Minor team faced Thomastown in Thomastown on Wednesday evening, 1st September in the preliminary round of the Roinn B Championship.

On what was a perfect evening for hurling, Thomastown got off to a quick start going 2 points up in the first few minutes after a few uncharacteristic wides from the Graigue Ballycallan forwards were driven before that at the opposite end. Read more

Hurling Updates: U13, U15 and U17 training update

The GAA have announced a roadmap to recommencing training and games and this includes U13, U15 and U17 Championship. The club are working through the details at the moment and we are currently planning to go back training on the week of 29th June 2020 and will train on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. We hope lots of our players have been doing some hurling and physical work over the break but if anyone needs a plan over the next 2 weeks we have attached a strength programme below based on bodyweight exercises. This includes You Tube videos of the correct technique. If any player would like to start some aerobic work, a good target would be to run 1km three times a week at a steady pace. All this work will prevent soreness/stiffness and injury when we get back to the field.

Strength Programme for U13, U15 and U17 players

We have also included here a handy booklet on Sports Nutrition for teenagers when they are training which may be useful. safefood-Teen-Sports-Booklet

We look forward to being back on the field and enjoying the 2020 season.

Minior A Camogie Tuesday 9th April

Our Minior girls travelled to Gowran on Tuesday 9th April off the back of a great win over Piltown the previous week. The girls put in a great first half against a very strong and up to the age Gowran side. The scoreline at half time was Gowran 1-9  St Brigid’s 0-3. Gowran came out like a force to be reckoned with in the second half. Our young girls put in great determination and teamwork but were broke down by this Gowran side at every chance. The final score does not reflect the effort put in by this young St. Brigid’s side. Final score Gowran 5-13 St Brigid’s 1-8.

Minor Review 2017

By Adrian Ronan & Tom Hogan

Minors 2017 was a year that we were so looking forward to, a year where we had great hope and expectations because we knew we had the quality. This group had delivered so much up along throughout their juvenile careers so we were entitled to dream of a Minor A Title, either League/Championship. As individual players these lads gave so much to other teams in the club, colleges and county. Read more

MINOR NEWS

Report by Philomena Brennan

The long awaited minor season kicked off on the 6th July last.  A myriad of circumstances beyond the management’s control this year had seen serious disruption to their training plans for this group of players. However, they put this behind them as their match against town side Dicksboro opened. A very strong first half display saw them take a six point lead into the break. However this lead was to prove short-lived and an improved Dicksboro ran out worthy winners at the end.

Minor News July

Report by Adrian Ronan
After 7 weeks of a break for exams the Minors faced a busy July. Like all clubs at this time of year, battling and coping with the long-term break and players on holidays becomes an issue.
We in Graigue-Ballycallan are no different so with some niggling injures and players on holidays we faced a nervous July.

Minor Hurling League, Round 3, 27/04/16

GBC minors took on Thomastown in Tom Ryall Park last Wednesday in the third round of the league. After two losses to city teams, a win was badly needed to boost morale and build some momentum in this league, prior to the exam break. With only five minutes on the clock, a Thomastown forward broke loose and picked his spot from close range. Bill Cuddihy brought off a great save, avoiding an early setback. Read more
