Graigue Ballycallan 5-14
Dicksboro 1-14
On a breezy Saturday afternoon in Tom Ryall Park, Graigue Ballycallan Junior B team took on Dicksboro. Graigue started well going ahead after a James Gleeson point. However, Dicksboro made use of the wind and began to score freely with some good long-range points. GBC did not lie down though and regained the lead with a hard-fought goal from Padraig Murphy.
Dicksboro then moved up a gear, cancelling out Murphy’s goal with a goal of their own. Points were then traded between the teams to bring the score to 1-7 to 1-8 in favour of Dicksboro with 3 minutes left in the half. Dicksboro, however scored 3 points unanswered before the half-time whistle to leave the score at the break GBC 1-7 Dicksboro 1-11
The second half started brilliantly for the home side with Philly Heafey using a classy flick to knock a long ball past the Dicksboro goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Dicksboro again hit on the counter and regained a 3 point lead, bringing the score to 2-8 to 1-14. However this was to be the extent of their scoring for the duration of the game. The Graigue Ballycallan defence was rock solid from this point on, leaking no scores and providing high-quality supply of ball to the forwards. In attack GBC made excellent use of this supply, with Eamonn Egan scoring some fantastic points from play and from frees, and substitute JP Murphy scoring a hat-trick of goals. This exceptional second-half display was mirrored in the final scoreline. Full Time score GBC 5-14 Dicksboro 1-14
