After a fourteen week break over the summer, the St. Canice’s Credit Union SHL resumed on Saturday 31st August. GBC’s opponents were neighbours Danesfort and the tie was fixed for John Locke Park in Callan.
Playing with the assistance of a very strong breeze it became evident early on that opponents Danesfort meant business. They quickly built up a five point lead which in truth left GBC struggling to pull back for the duration of the entire game.
Half-time came as a relief for the locals as they went into the break six points to their disadvantage.
Half Time Score: GBC 0-9 Danesfort 0-15
An uphill battle faced the local lads as they entered the second half and while they did manage to claw back the lead to four points it always looked like it was going to be Danesforts’s day.
While GBC battled bravely to the finish the final whistle came as somewhat of a relief as their opponents recorded a comprehensive victory.
Full Time Score: GBC 0-18 Danesfort 0-26
Scores: C.Murphy 0-7 (5 fs, 1 65), J.Roberts 0-4, B.Ryan 0-3, S.Ryan 0-2, C.Hoyne 0-2 (2fs).
