St. Brigid’s U16’s are enjoying a great year to date with some excellent performances over the past few months. The girls have been training since last February starting with one night a week in St. Patrick’s School on Kells Rd. Here plenty of hard work, foundations and plans were agreed to perform in the Roinn A League. Training and matches were the order of the day during the months of March, April and May. The girls playing in Roinn A are well aware that 2018 is going to require a huge effort as all teams have ambitions.
Starting with a lucky one point win in our first match over Piltown this gave the girls renewed confidence. The remaining league matches continued and narrow wins over Gowran, Dicksboro ,James Stephens and Glenmore followed. These games produced games of high quality and in all cases girls had to dig deep to record victory. The only blip along the way was a heavy defeat against Thomastown who are an excellent team and strong favourites to win the U16 championship. With all 6 games in the League played this has left St. Brigid’s level on points with Thomastown and into an U16 Roinn A League Final to be played sometime in September against same opposition.
Our first Championship game was on Wednesday August 1st and a win over James Stephens was recorded. So a championship semi-final is now next on the agenda over the coming weeks. Fingers crossed the girls can prevail and reach a ROINN A final especially after the huge disappointment of losing the ROINN B Final in 2017.
