Report by Niall Egan
GBC U12’s were invited to the Young Ireland’s U12 Tournament on Saturday May 19th. Our boys were drawn in a group with Clara, Piltown and Graignamanagh. On what was a glorious morning, we took on Clara in the opening fixture. This match was very well-balanced throughout. In the final 5 minutes, Clara pulled away with some well-taken points to run out winners GBC 1-2 Clara 1-6.
Match two saw us pitted against a strong Piltown side who were in control throughout. Despite this our boys never dropped their heads and kept hurling until the final whistle. Full Time Score: GBC 1-2 Piltown 4-4.
In our final game, we played Graignamanagh. With the chance of reaching a Shield Final the players gave a performance worthy of the sky blue jersey. Simple traits of work-rate, desire and honesty were rewarded with a victory on a score-line of GBC 1-2 Graig 0-2. Despite the young age of the panel on this occasion (six U10’s) and being short some players, management were very pleased with the team’s effort over the three games. Thank you to the Young Ireland’s Club for inviting us and compliments on a very well-organised tournament.
