Sunday 13th May saw GBC U15’s travel to Paulstown seeking their first league win of the season.
Dry sunny weather prevailed on this occasion for a change thankfully.
Playing with the breeze, Barrow Rangers raced into a 1-1 to 0-1 lead early in the first half.
A well placed GBC penalty was dispatched to the net in the second quarter by Ryan Corcoran who ended up with an impressive tally of 1-6 on the night.
Rangers went in at the break ahead by the narrowest of margins 1-6 to 1-5. The half back line of Patrick Foley, Billy Dowling and Elliot Teehan holding firm.
GBC upped the tempo from the re-start and nabbed a couple of good points early on but then conceded a second goal.
Despite being 2-9 to 1-7 down, the lads dug deep and found a higher gear.
Jack Butler and Shane Comerford were hungry for possession at midfield and chipped in with two well taken points each, supported by the hard work of Jeff Neary, Jake O’Brien, Dean O’Brien and Eoin Egan who moved out to centre forward.
The introduction of Ciaran Dowling, Dylan Teehan and Micheal Harrison brought further energy and firepower.
A rampaging Tom Brennan moved to full forward AND lashed two goals to the Rangers’ net along with a well taken Jack Guiry goal.
A couple of great saves by Ben Young and a solid back line of Conor Walton, Billy Egan and Ryan Cody helped limit Rangers to only two further points for the remainder of the contest. An enjoyable game saw our lads dig deep and carve out a much needed first win.
Full time: GBC 4-12 Barrow Rangers 2-11.
Well done lads!
