Report by Michelle Neary
2017 was a very enjoyable year for all involved due to the continued success of the St. Aidan’s school team which was backboned by the majority of Under 12 panel. We had a fairly quite start to the year, added to that 10 of our panel were also part of the under 14 panel, taking part in the Football and Hurling League and Championship and also the Féile.
The school team enjoyed a good year winning the Country Cup and 7-a-side and were beaten in the A Final where they came up against a strong St. Canice’s team.
The start of the year was busy with training and a few challenge matches. Our Under 11 players took part in the Ballyragget blitz playing 3 matches.
The Go Games started in July and we played O’Loughlin’s, Dicksboro, James Stephens and Freshford winning all but one.The Go Games Finals took place in Palmerstown where we played Dicksboro and Graiguenamangh.
We took part in the Coolderry tournament in August playing Coolderry, Ballygunner and Clooney Quin of Clare winning all these matches.
In September we hosted the Fennelly Tournament with Dicksboro, Ballygunner and Gowran joining us .We played Gowran winning narrowly which set us up to play Ballygunner in the final. After a tough match we were victorious.
In October we were invited to take part in the Clarinbridge Tournament playing Sarsfields of Clarinbridge and Kilmayley of Clare winning both games before we overcame Naas in the final ending a very enjoyable year on a high for all involved.
Our Under 11 team took part in a floodlit league in Danesfort in October. We played Dunnamaggin, Danesfort and finally Callan finishing our hurling season for 2017.
Thanks to anyone who helped out in any way and we look forward the next chapter in 2018.
