The seventeen year wait is over!!
After a somewhat slow start to the season, a threat of Relegation and an injection of youth coupled with some great experience Graigue-Ballycallan have now earned their place in the Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Hurling Final. However, at half time in last Sunday’s encounter with a highly fancied Glenmore, there was not many in the large attendance in Nowlan Park who would have envisaged the result.
It has become somewhat of a habit of this team to finish their games in a blaze of glory! Graigue Ballycallan looked in grave trouble, when they were seven points behind at the break but a fantastic second half by all concerned, including replacements, saw them outscore their opponents by 2-14 to 0-6 in that thirty minute period. The massive local support was on the edge of their seats as Graigue Ballycallan worked ruthlessly to gain the lead in the 54th minute. Glenmore re-took the lead but a return of 1-2 by the boys saw them take the honours.
Scores: S.Ryan 1-9(0-7fs) B.Ryan 1-1, E.Brennan 0-3, J.Roberts 0-2, W.O’Connor, B.Murphy and V.Teehan 0-1 each
Final Score: Graigue Ballycallan 2-18 Glenmore 2-12
Next up the Intermediate County Final against St. Patrick’s, Ballyragget on Sunday 22nd October.
