Our Intermediates took on Rower Inistioge in Inistioge on 23rd July in the second round of the Championship. It was a tough battle as always between the two of these teams but this time St. Brigid’s came out on top.
From the start, the game was intense and fast-paced. The girls started the scoring with a point from play from Eimear Keoghan two minutes after throw in after some great passing down the wing. A few minutes later, full forward Kym Ryan scored the first of her powerful goals leaving the Inistioge goalie with no chance of saving it. Bronagh Neary added to the score with a well taken point soon after and this left the score at 1-2 to no score 6 minutes into the game. Rower Inistioge got their first goal after they forced a gap through the half and full back lines and quickly added to this with a point after securing the puck out. For the next 14 minutes Rower Inistioge dominated, keeping the girls scoreless and scoring a further three points themselves. After 22 minutes, the score was 1-4 to 1-2 in favour of the opposition but Eimear converted a free with 7 minutes to go. The last few minutes were intense as the scoring was so close and hard to come by. Just before the half time whistle, Kym Ryan again got hold of the sliotar and smashed it into the back of the net, just what the girls needed. Half time score 2-3 to 1-4.
Marie Doheny opened the scoring of the second half after just 25 seconds with an expertly taken point but unfortunately the opposition scored their second goal just moments after leaving the game on level scores. Trojan work from the half and full back line, even when under immense pressure, meant that the Inistioge girls didn’t score for another twelve minutes. During this period Kym completed her hat trick of goals and Marie slotted over another point. The opposition came back with two points in three minutes but captain Laura Hennessy added her own point in reply. Inistioge scored their last point with seven minutes to go but the girls finished strong with Bronagh Neary and Kym Ryan adding more points to the tally. Final score was 3-8 to 2-7.
