Well done to St.Brigid’s Intermediates who won their first championship encounter this year. They took on Ballyhale in Ballyhale on Monday evening 10th July.
St. Brigid’s dominated the first ten minutes, scoring 1-3 before Ballyhale got on the score board.
A fantastic save by Miriam Walton denied the opposition their first score. Marie Doheny started off the scoring after two minutes on the clock with a well taken point from play and followed up on this three minutes later with another. Bronagh Neary added to this with a further 1-1 leaving the girls six points in the clear. Soon after, Ballyhale scored 1-1, the goal coming from an overlap in the backs. For the next ten minutes the teams were score for score every one or two minutes which left the score as 1-9 to 2-5 with five minutes to go, Ballyhale getting another easy goal in the 20th minute. Points came from Eimear Keoghan, Laureena Murphy, Kym Ryan, Marie and Bronagh. Half time score was 1-10 to 2-5 to St. Brigid’s.
Captain Laura Hennessy kicked off the scoring in the second half with a point after a brilliant passage of passing up the field to which Ballyhale replied soon after. Throughout the second half the backs stood firm and kept the Ballyhale threat away from goal. Laureena and Eimear added to their tally after some great defending by Aisling Dunphy and the half back line of Amy O’Connor, Laoise Prendiville and Ann Doheny. After ten minutes Katie Brennan came on in half forward and two minutes later scored a point from play. Eimear then added her fourth point of the game in the 41st minute and Ballyhale replied with their last score from play soon after. Eimear converted a free and a 45’ in the last 10 minutes, the same as Ballyhale. Just as the sixty minutes were up Laureena blasted home a shot which rattled the net. This left the final score as 2-17 to 2-10.
