St. Brigid’s U14’s had an extremely successful and memorable Féile weekend this year as they finished top four in the country by getting to the Division 1 cup semi-final. It started on Friday in Larchfield where the girls came out winners of both of their games.
They played Lucan Sarsfields in their first game and won on a scoreline of 5-3 to 1-5 after some great plays of camogie throughout the game. They took on James Stephens next and had a comfortable win at 5-8 to 0-1. The girls then took on visitors Gailtir from Waterford on Saturday morning in Kilmanagh. The score ended up at 3-4 to 1-2 to St. Brigid’s which meant they topped group D going into the quarter-final on Saturday evening in Bunclody. They took on Annacarthy from Tipperary and were a point ahead at half time, 1-2 to 1-1. After a great second half display they ended up winners with a final score of 2-4 to 1-5 after a very tough game and a last minute goal. This meant the girls made it through to the cup semi-final on Sunday morning against Knockavilla who topped group B. Saturday night was a great night of entertainment and allowed the girls to relax after a busy two days, thank you to all those who worked hard to make the evening a success.
The girls made the journey back down to Wexford on Sunday morning, this time to Ferns to take on Knockavilla. After a goal in the first half the girls were up 1-1 to 3 points at the break but Knockavilla proved too strong and the match finished up 1-7 to 2-1. Even though the girls were disappointed they stayed on to support Gailtir in their shield final but unfortunately the result did not go their way.
