The inaugural Fennelly Cup U-12 blitz took place last Saturday in the Club Grounds. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side but the Boys all played their part in making this tournament a very enjoyable day for all involved.
The Fennelly Cup was sponsored and called after the five Fennelly Brothers – Ted, Jack, Paddy, Tom and Billy. All born and reared in the parish. They were fantastic clubmen and loved the underage hurling in the Club. Billy’s family purposed the idea of the cup which was welcomed by all the members and very much appreciated.
On the day, James Stephens proved too strong for all the teams involved winning all their matches comprehensively, Captained by Emma Minogue. Billy Fennelly’s son Eamon presented the cup to Emma and gave a lovely speech about the history of the Club and his family’s involvement down through the years. A very special day for the Fennelly Family and we would like to thank them sincerely. A fantastic success.
There was four teams involved Dicksboro, Blackrock of Cork, James Stephens and our own Graigue Ballycallan Boys (little note to mention that our own club man Joe Young who now lives in Blackrock, was manager of his team)
These were the following results on the day.
Pitch 1
Graigue Ballycallan 0-2 James Stephens 2-4
Blackrock 2-4 Graigue Ballycallan 1-2
Dicksboro 5-6 Graigue Ballycallan 2-0
Pitch 2
Dicksboro 1-4 Blackrock 2-8
James Stephens 6-3 Dicksboro 3-1
Blackrock 1-5 James Stephens 4-6
