Hard luck to our Intermediates who narrowly missed out on an All-County League title. They played Glenmore in Mullinavat on Saturday 3rd September.
Glenmore were first on the scoreboard with two points in quick succession shortly after the throw in. However, the girls did not let this unsettle them and Laureena Murphy got a rasper of a goal in the 6th minute to kick off the girls scoring.
Glenmore answered this with two more points, one from a free. Ten minutes into the game, the ball came from our full back line with a great clearance from Nicola Butler right down to our full forward line to Eimear Keoghan in corner forward who put the sliotar in the back of the net. The Glenmore forwards were running at the backs and picked off two more points from a distance. Eadaoin Murphy then converted a free and a 45’ within two minutes of each other putting the girls two points ahead. Glenmore came back with a point but Eimear again answered with two points of her own in the 17th minute. This was the end of the St. Brigid’s scoring in the 1st half and this gave Glenmore the chance to build on their score. The St. Brigid’s backs were under severe pressure for the last ten minutes but there was great hassling from half backs Tara Hogan, Niamh O’Connor and Therese Muldowney at centre. Glenmore scored a further 1-5 before half time which left the half time score at 1-13 to 2-4 in favour of the opposition.
The girls came out in the second half and took three points off the deficit which were unanswered. Glenmore got their first point 10 minutes into the second half but Eadaoin cancelled it with one of her own. Great work from the full backs and midfields meant the forwards received some great balls and they scored another 1-3 before the end. Unfortunately, Glenmore found a gap in the backs and scored their second goal to finish up their scoring. This left the final score at 2-17 to 3-11 which unfortunately meant the girls were three points short at the final whistle. Glenmore took home the All-County League title for the second year in a row.
