Well done to our U16s who beat the Rower Inistioge in the championship last Thursday 25th August on a sunny evening in Tom Ryall Park.
It was tough from the start with the Rower getting a quick goal after one minute but the girls were strong and settled quick with Molly Butler scoring a goal in the second minute after an excellent pass from midfield.
Another attack was made on goal soon after but Ellie O’Neill made an excellent save. From here the girls took off with excellent passing throughout the field and were strong in each tackle. In the next 10 minutes the girls scored 3-1 unanswered. Laoise Prendiville was determined in full forward scoring two goals, Sinead Murphy scored the third goal and Claire Quigley landed the ball over the bar from the half forward line. The opposition were to score only one point in the first half coming after 15 minutes. Not much happened on the scoring front in the last 15 minutes of the first half as the girls put five balls wide. Great work from the half back line meant the Rower didn’t get another opportunity to score. Half time score 4-1 to 1-1.
The second half began with a brilliant goal from Sinead Murphy and a fantastic save from Ellie O’Neill. From there it was clear the girls were the more dominant team as they scored a further six points unanswered, two from frees. The opposition’s only score in the second half was a point in the 15th minute and the girls scored a further 3-1 with goals coming from Laoise, Tara Ronan and Kym Ryan. Trojan work from the midfield, half back and forward lines meant the girls completely took over the second half. Final score was 8-8 to 1-2.
