Well done to our Intermediate camogie team who beat St. Anne’s in the League Semi Final on Saturday 22nd August. It was a very tough game but the girls eventually came out on top after a burst of excellent play in the last fifteen minutes of the game. From the whistle, it was clear it wasn’t going to be an easy game but St. Brigid’s kicked off the scoring when Aisling Dunphy converted a 45 after 4 minutes.
St. Anne’s first score of the game came in the form of a soft goal from a 45. There was some tough play for the next 10 minutes without any score from either side due to excellent play from both sets of backs. St. Anne’s scored a further two points before the end of the half and points from Eimear Keoghan, Laureena Murphy and Amy O’Connor meant that the score was level at half time. St. Brigid’s 0-5 St. Anne’s 1-2.
St. Anne’s were first to score in the second half with a point from play but Laureena Murphy answered this with her own well taken point after hard work from the midfields. A second goal from the opposition meant they went a point ahead and from here they drove on and scored another 2 points unanswered. Just when things were looking bad for St. Brigid’s, half way through the second half, Eadaoin Murphy lifted the girls with a great goal from play following brilliant work from the St. Brigid’s backs. From here to the end of the game the girls really lifted their heads and dominated showing great determination and strength. The St. Brigid’s backs prevented the frustrated opposition from scoring except from one point which came from a free with 13 minutes to go. Each of our forwards scored in the last 15 minutes and this led to the scoring opening up between the teams. Great teamwork from all girls and huge work rate meant the girls came out on top by six points. Final score 1-15 to 2-06.
