With State Examinations rapidly approaching the u16 Roinn A League continues apace as the break for Junior and Leaving Cert students looms nearer. With three wins from three outings under their belts the GBC side welcomed near neighbours Danesfort to a sunny but cold Tom Ryall Park, Kilmanagh on the May Bank Holiday week-end.
From the throw in GBC made their intentions clear and from the first attack Aaron Brennan made no mistake in putting the ball in the visitors net. Sean Ryan followed suit and although playing against the stiff breeze GBC got into their stride and with scores from Oisín Egan and James Everard it appeared that this match would prove easier than anticipated.
HT Score: GBC 4-7 Danesfort 2-6.
However, any thoughts of an easy second half were quickly dispelled when a rejuvenated Danesfort side hit the GBC side with two goals and a point without reply. This galvanised the locals to tighten up their defence and with Tommy Ronan, Adam O’Brien and Ger Doheny hurling fiercely and Killian Egan dominating centre field GBC regained control of the game, with Sean Ryan picking off some great points. The final score did not reflect how tough this encounter was.
FT Score: GBC 6-21 Danesfort 4-10
