The u-16s continued their league campaign with a trip to the South on Monday last where they competed against Dunnamaggin. These two teams last met in the u16 Roinn B Championship quarter finals last September and all will recall that the GBC lads emerged victorious with only one point to spare on that occasion. So a close encounter was anticipated by the good crowd of supporters in attendance.
The first ten minutes were played at a frantic pace with some heavy challenges been experienced on both sides, but GBC were the first to settle and when they got into their stride they put on a great show of intelligent use of the ball from the defence and mid-field which culminated in a display of fantastic point taking from all six forwards.
The in-form Sean Ryan was causing headaches in the Dunnamaggin defence and with the half-backs, in particular Tommy Ronan and Conor Flynn cutting off the supply of the ball to their opponents GBC went into the break with a commanding lead.
Half-Time Score: GBC 1-15 Dunnamaggin 0-1.
The second half produced more of the same from GBC and while the scores did not come as frequently as they did in the first half, it was now the turn of the GBC defence and mid-field to come to the fore. Jesse Roberts and Killian Egan were dominating the mid-field area and Ger Doheny and Tom Dunphy on the full back line, with great assistance from Adam O’Brien and Luke O’Brien limited their opponents to only two points from play in this half.
Full-Time Score: GBC 1-18 Dunnamaggin 0-6
