The Graigue-Ballycallan Gaa Club held their juvenile medal presentation night in Ballycallan Hall on Saturday 17th last. It was a night to reflect on the most successful year the club had at under-age level in recent years.
Dave O’Neill, Vice-Chairman was MC for the night and got proceedings underway by inviting Club Chairman Pat Hayes to address the large crowd present. Pat thanked all the mentors who gave of their time freely during the year to train all the teams and expressed his hope that this dedication to the development of young players would go from strength to strength.
Willie Dempsey, Chairman of Bord na nOg and Joe Pyke, Treasurer of Bord na nOg were invited guests and in his address Willie Dempsey congratulated the club on contesting the U14, U16 and Minor Roinn B County Finals in 2014.
During the summer months the club was the subject of a radio documentary produced by Kevin McGillicuddihy in conjunction with KCLR radio. The documentary followed the efforts of Kerry native Kevin, in his attempts to learn how to play hurling and he trained with the u16s and minor panels. Kevin wished to show his appreciation to his fellow team-mates and made a presentation to all members of the two panels.
It was then on to the main event of the night, the actual presentation of medals. Local hero, eight times All-Ireland medal winner Eddie Brennan did the honours and first up were the u14 Roinn B Finalists to receive their runners up medals. Next, he presented medals to the minor Roinn B Finalists. Lastly it was the turn of the u16s, to be honoured as League and Championship winners. With the formalities over, all present enjoyed the refreshments provided by the club. A big thanks must go to all who helped in any way in making the night a wonderful event and as we take leave of the 2014 season we all look forward and hope for continued success in 2015.
