U12 HURLING NEWS

Report by Martin Delahunty

The U12 panel finished up their 2014 campaign with a visit to James Stephens Kells Road venue on Sunday morning 12th October to play the Andy Egan Tournament. We had a near full turnout with 24 boys togging out on the morning, this gave a difficult task to the mentors, as the games were played over only 24 minutes with 12 players a-side.

3 games were played in total with plenty of shuffling and switching and all the boys were given plenty of game time.

The first game pitched against James Stephens Team Green which they lost out by 2 points, the second against the other James Stephens team where they were beaten comprehensively by a decent team. Their final game of the morning was played against the boys from St. Martin’s and this result went our way with a great 2nd half fight back to come from 5 pts down to win by a single point. This result went down well with the locals as it put them into a playoff against St. Martins for the title which they duly won.The mentors were delighted with the great fighting attitude of their squad who all adapted well to different roles on the pitch and considering all the constant chopping and changing of the team they certainly held their own on the morning against two of the finest hurling clubs in the county.

A huge thanks must be given to organisers James Stephens on a very well run tournament with special thanks to 2 good ” Village” hurling men , Jim Mulhall and Ritchie Ruth.

This morning’s hurling brought an end to the season for these future stars, with 18 of the panel now making the big step up to the U14 squad next spring. Best of luck to these boys and to the boys who still have another year to play at U12 level. The future looks good for GBC.
Thanks very much to all who helped out during the year, caterers, referees, umpires, jersey washers and especially to Paul Muldowney who was always there when needed.
