Our U-8’s had a much improved outing in the Inistioge Tournament on Saturday the 30th August. All matches were 10-a-side with the first half ground hurling only. First up was St. Mullins. After a sluggish first half, we went in at HT 1-0 to no score behind. In the second half, despite great efforts and two disallowed goals, our lads couldn’t get a deserved equaliser. The FT score was GBC 0-0 St. Mullins 1-0.
Our second game pitted us against Whitehall (Dublin), where our boys hit the ground running. A couple of goals from Ben Young saw us lead 2-1 to no score at HT. With Aidan Comerford and Sean McGrath dominating in defence, our boys went on to win 5-2 to 1-0 at FT.
Our final game saw us play hosts Rower Inistioge. GBC rose to the challenge and saved their best performance for the last game! Elliot Teehan was dominant at centre back and Páidí Egan covered great ground at centre field. Meanwhile, Ben Young kept the scoreboard ticking over up front. We ran out convincing winners 5-04 to 1-0 the FT score. The team finished very strong and the coaches came away very happy with the day’s hurling, but know there’s plenty to improve on before the Dicksboro tournament next weekend.
