Well done to our intermediate camogie team who have won the 3rd round of the league. On Tuesday 22nd July the girls were up against Danesfort in Danesfort on a warm summer’s evening. Again, injuries were affecting the numbers but we had a panel of 17 on the night. St Brigid’s got off to a great start, scoring 3 points before Danesfort got a look in. Great passing between the half back line and the half forward line meant the ball travelled fast up the field and from this 9 points were scored from play in the 1st half. Brilliant play from the backs meant the opposition only had 2 shots on goal in the 1st 30 minutes and both of which were saved. At half time the girls were up 12 points to 5 points.
In the second half again they were off from the start and great work at the half forward and midfield lines ensured the scores kept coming. A Danesfort goal only drove the girls on and soon after Amy O’Connor, after a long solo run, saw an opening and she took her shot on goal and it paid off. This gave the girls the boost they needed and they battled on from there, scoring a further 5 points. Great fighting around midfield from Laura Hennessy, Aisling Dunphy and Therese Muldowney kept a lot of the pressure off the backs but when the ball did end up in their half they were strong over the ball and cleared it well. Excellent play from all girls meant Danesfort only scored 1-02 in the second half. Full time score was 1-19 to 1-07.
