In Windgap last Friday GBC played Dunnamaggin in the fourth round of the intermediate hurling league.
The sides traded points until the ninth minute, when Dunnamaggin hit the net, making the score GBC 0-3, Dunnamaggin 1-2. Minutes later a fantastic double save by PJ Trant denied Dunnamaggin a second goal. GBC were under pressure, as Hickey and Phelan launched several attacks, but on twenty minutes, Eddie Brennan hit a purple patch, bagging 1-2 without reply. This left them all square at 1-6 each.
After an evenly contested first half GBC went in a point up, 1-9 to 1-8. Dunnamaggin had several wides in that half and Graigue’s half back line of Walton, Ryall and J Murphy were to the fore all through.
In the second half Billy Ryan was moved to mid-field and himself and Eddie Brennan controlled that area. Eddie’s long range points were a highlight of the game. Bob Murphy stormed into the game at full back, while James Smith picked off his third point of the game. GBC ran out 1-20 to 1-16 winners, with a hard fought, spirited performance.
