Minor B St. Brigid’s vs St. Anne’s
Venue: Galmoy
Date: 30/6/14
Referee: Anthony Costigan
St. Brigid’s went into this game on the back of two wins from two games, but short a number of key players.
From the outset St. Anne’s stamped their authority on the game, and while Brigid’s tried hard it seemed that most of the possession they won, they gave straight back with poor passing.
In the first half the defence had a lot to do, and under the pressure they performed admirably, however, had the distribution been better, the pressure would not have been so great. In the middle of the field Anne’s were dominant to start with, and they played a possession game, finding a player each time.
At the break, the score reflected St. Anne’s dominance 2-9 to St Brigid’s 1-2, 2 points coming from frees – Ciara Murphy and a Charlotte McCluskey goal.
The second half started, and something had changed, there seemed to be more bite to Brigid’s, it seemed the girls had decided to come to the party. Passes were finding their mark, and possession was being maintained.
The Brigid’s defense continued to put in a strong performance, but now midfield started to do their bit, and the forwards decided it was time to give a better return, the net effect was a much improved team performance.
From a half time deficit of 10 points, at the end of the game, and a very good second half, Brigid’s lost by 4 points, the much improved performance in the second half simply was not enough to undo the damage inflicted in the first half. Final score was 3-12 to 4-5.
