Report by James Cahill.
The Graigue – Ballycallan U-10 blue team played their first Go-Game of the year in Slieverue on a cold, windy Saturday morning. Playing ground hurling for the first ten minutes of the game, Charlie Cleere, with a skillful ground stroke passed the sliotar to the ever alert Jeff Neary, who scored a fine opening goal which settled the Graigue – Ballycallan boys. Jeff quickly scored another two goals. Billy O’Neill struck a lovely point using a ground strike. Jeff continued on his scoring spree scoring another 2-1 before half time. Jake O’Brien got the sliotar, gave his opponent a fair shoulder and shot the sliotar to the net leaving Graigue with a comfortable lead at half time of 6-1 to no score. Pat Purcell, Aidan Cahill, Ryan Corcoran and Billy O’Neill were conceding very little play to the Slieverue players, clearing out any attacks that came towards the Graigue goal.
When play resumed Billy O’Neill scored a nice point. Dean O’Brien quickly followed up with a well taken goal. Ryan Corcoran got his first goal of his hat trick soon afterwards. Ryan Cody and Charlie Cleere continued to deliver good ball to the Graigue forwards in the second half. Seán Dillon and James Casey worked hard to keep the sliotar moving to the Slieverue goal. Graigue were piling on the pressure with lovely scores from Charlie Cleere and well taken points from Billy O’Neill and Aaron McEvoy.
Well done boys on a great performance. We wish all the U – 10 players and their families an enjoyable day next Sunday when they will receive their First Holy Communion.
