Graigue Ballycallan U15’s opened their 2020 League/Championship campaign with a 6 point (2 goal) win against a strong Erin’s Own team in Kilmanagh on Wednesday evening in far from ideal hurling conditions.
In the opening few minutes the teams looked evenly matched but the locals pulled away mid way through the first half thanks to 2 brilliant goals from an impressive Aaron McEvoy. From there on Graigue Ballycallan kept the visitors at arms length with Comer resorting to using a sweeper system for the rest of the game. The visitors came back strong in the final quarter against the wind but a brilliant combined effort from the defence and a strong midfield partnership of Jeff Neary and Ryan Cody kept them from changing the outcome. Ben Young played the spare man role very well and Paidí Egan put in a lot of hard work at centre forward.
Final score: GBC 2-12 Erin’s Own 0-12.
