GBC opened their U13 Roinn B League campaign against Kilmacow at sunny Tom Ryall Park recently. These boys have been training together with U11s since late February in preparation for school’s and club matches. They’ve played 4 challenge matches over the last month with mixed performances so the management team were unsure how the opening match would go against a physically bigger Kilmacow team.
This young team soon let management know they were up for the challenge with 3 early points, scores were traded for the next 15 but a goal from Tony Butler just before half time gave the locals a deserved lead, GBC 1-6 Kilmacow 0-4. The boys put in an excellent 2nd half with goals from Shane Cody and Michael Tynan and they ran out winners 3-11 to 0-8. The team’s honesty and work rate stood out and they had the skills to back it up.
Team: Shane Hogan, Cormac Neary, Elliott Teehan, Robbie Lynch, Robbie Tector, Páidí Egan (0-1), Frank McCluskey, Tony Butler (1-2), Sean McGrath, Ben Young (0-4), Eoin Cahill, Ben McEvoy, Aidan Ging (0-2), Shane Cody (1-0), Keelan Lynch (0-1), Michael Tynan (1-1), James O’Halloran, Andrew Tector, Seán O’Halloran.
We play Piltown and Mooncoin next week.
