The sixth round of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Hurling League took place in Kilmanagh on Friday last 7th June. Mooncoin were GBC’s opponents. With state examinations in full flow, both sides were missing several players from their panels. Despite this both sides served up an entertaining display.
The first half was very competitive and while scores were scarce both sides looked even across all sectors and this was reflected in the half time score.
Half Time: GBC 1-4 Mooncoin 1-5.
The second half did not live up to expectation for the locals as Mooncoin were in control from the end of the second quarter as GBC were guilty of some very wayward shooting. With the wide count going into double digits, GBC should have been at least on equal terms coming towards the last few minutes. A goal from the visitors in the 23rd minute put the result beyond doubt and Mooncoin ran out comfortable winners.
Full Time: GBC 2-10 Mooncoin 2-17
GBC now have 6 points from 5 games and their next match will be against Thomastown next week-end.
Scores: J. Demody 2-6 (4fs), S.Keoghan, G.Doheny, W.O’Connor and S.Hennessy 0-1 each.
