In a rain soaked Nowlan Park on Sunday last 13th October, GBC were attempting to secure a second successive County Final appearance. Conditions were miserable as the rain poured down from early Saturday as forecasted. A slight respite occurred just before the start of the game but it was to prove short-lived as conditions made open fast hurling next to impossible for both teams.
Tullogher-Rosbercon proved to be a big physical team and made life very difficult for the GBC lads. In fact Tullogher had the better of the exchanges for most of the first half and it was somewhat fortunate for GBC that their shooting was a bit wayward. The scores were level three times during the opening quarter and GBC only gained the lead in the 17th minute. With the Tullogher defence tightly packed the GBC forwards struggled to gain any momentum.
Half Time: GBC 0-8 Tullogher Rosbercon 0-7
Things in the second half only mirrored the previous thirty minutes and with the GBC goalkeeper in fine form, Tullogher were denied that vital goal which could have made all the difference to their cause. It was only in the 62nd minute that GBC put three points between the sides and the hard-working defence held out to secure the win.
Full Time: GBC 0-14 Tullogher Rosbercon 0-11
Scores: C. Murphy 0-4(4f) S.Ryan 0-3(1f) B.Ryan 0-3 C.Hoyne 0-1f, S.O’Dwyer, J.Roberts, S.Butler 0-1 each.
