After a great victory against St. Lachtain’s, GBC travelled to St. John’s Park with a quiet confidence to face League Champions Thomastown in the Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Quarter Final. Conditions were more akin to a July evening and the conditions most definitely lent themselves to a great game of hurling. The large crowd in attendance were treated to a competitive game which kept them enthralled to the final moments.
The old cliché of a “game of two halves” very aptly describes this encounter. Thomastown had the better of the first-half exchanges and were definitely worth their 1-10 to 1-4 lead at half time. However it was a very different GBC team which took to the field after the half-time break and a brilliant thirty minutes of hurling from them produced a return of 2-11. The crowd were on the edge of their seats as GBC drew level on the 47th minute. Even though Thomastown pulled marginally ahead again GBC scored 1-2 in a two minute spell and this was instrumental in the ensuing victory.
Final Score: GBC 3-15 Thomastown 1-17.
Scores: S. Ryan(0-8, six frees), B. Ryan, C. Prendiville(1-1 each), J. Roberts (1-0), C. Hoyne(0-2 frees), E. Brennan(0-2), R.Keoghan (0-1).
Next up a Semi-Final appearance against Glenmore in Nowlan Park on Sunday 8th Oct at 2pm. Please keep the support coming and get behind the players and their mentors as they attempt to gain a place in the Intermediate County Final.
