The long awaited minor season kicked off on the 6th July last. A myriad of circumstances beyond the management’s control this year had seen serious disruption to their training plans for this group of players. However, they put this behind them as their match against town side Dicksboro opened. A very strong first half display saw them take a six point lead into the break. However this lead was to prove short-lived and an improved Dicksboro ran out worthy winners at the end.
Final Score : GBC 2-10 Dicksboro: 3-12.
Scores: Sean Ryan 1-8 (0-6fs): Adam O’Brien 1-1: Aaron Brennan 0-1.
Their second outing saw the locals travel to Canon Kearns Park in Castlecomer to take on the Roinn B Minor winners of 2016, Erins Own. This game was played in atrocious conditions with no let up in the torrential rain during the sixty minutes. GBC adapted quicker and better to these conditions and commanded the majority of the match ups on the night. While the half-time score GBC 0-10 Erins Own 1-4 was close enough the locals stepped up the work rate in the second half and at the final whistle had limited their opponents to only two more points to add to their total.
Final Score: GBC 0-20 Erins Own 1-6.
Scores: Sean Ryan 0-12 (0-9fs): Oisín Egan 0-3: Adam O’Brien 0-2: Aaron Brennan 0-2: David Maher 0-1:
