Our Intermediates had a fantastic win against Freshford/Lisdowney last Thursday 27th April in Kilmanagh. This was the second round of the all new Senior League and the girls were determined to come away with a win.
The opposition were first on the scoreboard with points in the 5th and 6th minute from play after Miriam Walton pulled off a great save just before. This was Freshford/Lisdowney’s last score for nearly 10 minutes thanks to great work from the St. Brigid’s half backs. Sharpshooter Eimear Keoghan converted a free in the 9th minute to start the girls off and soon after Marie Doheny put the sliotar in the back of the net after a pass from Claire Quigley. Eimear put over another free and Marie scored her first point of the game leaving the score at 1-3 to 2 points with 15 minutes gone. Freshford/Lisdowney scored their third point from a free in the 20th minute after two wides with Marie replying straightaway with another point. The ball ended up in the St. Brigid’s square after a great battle at midfield and in the half back line but unfortunately the ball ended up in the net for Freshford/Lisdowney. The last score before half time came from a pass from Katie Brennan to Laura Hennessy who struck it over the bar. This left the half time score at 1-5 to 1-3 in favour of the girls.
Eimear Keoghan kicked off the scoring in the second half with a converted 45′ in the second minute and soon after, Freshford/Lisdowney put over a free. Some great clearances from our half and corner backs meant the opposition found it very hard to grab a score for another ten minutes while Eimear put over a point from play. In the next ten minutes St. Brigid’s scored 1-3 with the goal coming from full forward Siún Corcoran. This put the girls ahead by 8 points but in the 25th minute Freshford/Lisdowney put away their second goal. Soon after Miriam pulled off a great save after coming off the line but they scored another two points before the end, one from a free. This left the score at the final whistle at 2-11 to 2-7.
