On Sunday 16th April our Intermediates kicked off the year in the all new Senior League against Tullaroan in what turned out to be a very tough game. A great crowd showed up in Tullaroan for the game and we thank all those who came up to support us.
It was a battle from the start with Tullaroan winning possession and scoring two points in the first minute.
With the St. Brigid’s backs under pressure Miriam Walton pulled off an excellent save and denied Tullaroan the goal. They scored another two points from midfield before Bronagh Neary put the girls on the scoreboard with a well taken free. Marie Doheny and Aisling Dunphy both took their own points from long range in the next five minutes but Tullaroan replied with 1-2. The last ten minutes of the first half were dominated by St. Brigid’s with some excellent plays down the wings from the forwards and great fight from the backs. The girls put over three more points unanswered up to the end of the half. Half time score 1-6 to 0-6.
Coming out in the second half the intensity flared with some tough tackles at midfield and in the half lines. Trojan work from the St. Brigid’s backs meant Tullaroan didn’t get a look in for the first ten minutes of the half. In those first ten minutes, St. Brigid’s brought the gap back to one point. From here Tullaroan took over on the scoring front and from there to the end of the game they scored a further 1-9 with St. Brigid’s managing to put one more point on the board after a few missed scores. St. Brigid’s finished the game with 13 players and Tullaroan with 14 after an intense last 20 minutes. Final score 2-15 to 0-9.
