Report by John Kenny
It was the U10’s final training session for 2016 last Monday 19th September. There was a fantastic turnout by all the girls, all 22 turned up and put in a mighty effort to finish out the season. Nothing new with this group of girls, all year even when things didn’t go their way they dug deep and gave it everything they had, and finished each match with great strength and massive heart. Each and every one of them are a credit to themselves, their families and their club and are a pleasure to train. Their futures are very bright.
The final training session started with the usual drills, and then in to the final match of the year, where no girl gave an inch, and got stuck in from the word go, to finish out the year in style with all parents looking on with great pride.
At half time there was a wonderful surprise where we were delighted to welcome three of our fantastic intermediate county player’s Kirsty Maher, Lydia Phelan and Sabrina Walsh, and yes with them was the Jack McGrath Cup, and the O’Duffy Cup. A massive thanks to the three girls who took time out of their busy schedule to visit our U10’s and take part in the training session and answered any amount of questions which were thrown at them from our inquisitive young girls.
Second half took place and the helter-skelter carried on. We were very lucky to have Deirdre Prendiville who also took time out to take part in our training session and return to the pitch to take up position in the goal.
The final whistle was blown and the match ended in a draw. A presentation was made by Deirdre to each player which each girl received a goodie bag, a sliotar and a team photo for 2016. A lovely moment for each young player, and very special to have a local star make the presentation, a massive thanks again to Deirdre. A special thanks to Bridget Brennan who organised the evening and to all our guests.
Seven out of our U10’s will move on to the U12 grade next year and we wish them the very best in 2017. We welcome 13 new players from U8’s to U10’s bringing our numbers to a very impressive 28 for U10 for 2017, busy times ahead.
Roll on 2017 for St Brigids U10s!
