The annual Graigue-Ballycallan Gaa Club and St. Brigid’s Camogie Club Family Fun day took place on Sunday 14th August last. After enduring inclement weather for the previous two years all forecast indications were the day would prove to be on our side. It turned out just so!
A big crowd of volunteers gathered early in Tom Ryall Park and by noon the stage was set for an enjoyable afternoon. The day kicked off with the usual parade of u-8 teams behind the every faithful Ballycallan Fife and Drum Band and the future stars of Kilkenny hurling did not disappoint the crowds of proud parents and supporters as they gave their all in the following matches. Throughout all this, the barbeque and kitchen were a hive of activity with the ladies providing lovely fare for all present. The bungee trampoline, bouncy castles and obstacle courses were never empty and the train did a roaring trade all day as it leisurely traversed the perimeter of the playing fields. This year a new u-6 tournament took place in the afternoon and it was a wonderful sight to see the many parents and grand-parents cheering on their young offspring. A new attraction,”Where will Winnie Pooh” proved a big hit with the crowd and while Winnie did suffer from a touch of stage fright she did eventually fulfil her brief!!! Hook a Duck and the Ball through the Pipe had countless contestants displaying their skill, or lack of, as the case may be!! The annual timber raffle and auction proved as popular as ever with people, mindful that the winter beckons. In all a great day was had and sincere thanks must go to all who volunteered in any way, the sponsors and of course the public who turned out in great numbers. Here’s to Family Fun Day 2017!!
