Graigue Ballycallan U14s finished a very busy week with a long journey to Pearse Stadium in Galway to play in the Regional Féile Finals. An early start for all when the bus wheeled out of Tom Ryall Park at 8am sharp, with the girls gathering to play their Féile in Dublin.
The day involved two games against Kilmacud Crokes and Loughrea with the top of the group to play out a final against the winner of group 2. The Graigue boys were missing a few key players due to injury and holidays but 19 eager players togged out in the impressive rooms of Pearse Stadium.
First up were the Dublin outfit and our boys were a bit tardy in the early minutes and gave up a 6 point lead which, fight as they did, couldn’t reel that in and finished up 4 points short.
With a short break and a few sharp words from management, the locals fielded to take on a very strong and physical Loughrea unit. Again their opponents took an early lead due to a defensive error and despite getting to within 1 point with 5 minutes on the clock they couldn’t get the vital scores late on and again finished a few points short. So lots of hurling being played by these boys at the top level with the management getting the chance to get good look at all players on the panel. Everybody is learning from these tough games and with a league playoff to be played against James Stephens within the next 10 days, they’re coming together nicely and the management will be hoping to have them primed for this big game. Well done to all today, great day out with great memories!
