Following a narrow two point defeat against O’Loughlin’s in the first round, GBC went into this second round Minor League game with reasonable grounds for optimism. The pitch was barely playable on the night and with a bitterly cold cross-wind the scene felt like the TV set of Craggy Island.
There was little between the teams in the first half; Sean Ryan put over four points from placed balls while Aaron Brennan and Killian Egan chipped in with a point each from play. The Boro made a few runs on goal and in the twentieth minute a shot from a breaking ball took a deflection off a defender into the GBC net. GBC were only a point down at half time, despite not having played anywhere near their potential. GBC 0-6, Dicksboro 1-4.
Things went from bad to worse for the GBC boys in the second half and Dicksboro broke through for three further goals. GBC scored five points in the second half, two from frees. It was one of those nights when nothing went right for GBC and their disappointment was clearly evident. They will no doubt bounce back, as they are a squad with lots of potential. Final score: Dicksboro 4-8, GBC 0-11.
