Well done to our Intermediate Camogie team who won the first round of the All-County League on Sunday 3rd April. They are off to a great start as they beat Clara in Clara in bad weather conditions.
The girls were strong from the start with Marie Doheny opening the scoring in the 1st minute with a well taken point.
Bronagh Neary followed it up with a point of her own after another three minutes after perfect passing up the field from the half backs. After tough fighting from the backs, Clara made a run for the goal and hand passed the sliotar into the net. St. Brigid’s quickly responded with points from Bronagh Neary and Bernie Ryall. Clara put one over the bar from a free but again the St. Brigid’s forwards attacked and scored another 1-1 before Clara got their next opportunity and slotted one over the bar from their half line. Brilliant play from both the full and half back line meant Clara only got one more score in the first half. The girls dominated the last ten minutes before the whistle scoring a further 1-3 leaving them eight points ahead at half time.
Half time score 2-8 to 1-3.
Ann and Marie Doheny opened up the scoring in the second half with two points directly after each other. The St. Brigid’s backs kept tight and defended extremely well which made sure our forwards were kept busy with plenty of ball. Two scoring chances went wide for the girls before Clara found an opening for goal after a long ball dropped in and again used the hand pass to pull off another goal. The girls completely dominated the second half and in the last 20 minutes of the game Clara only scored one point from just three chances. Brilliant play from the St. Brigid’s girls from all corners of the field meant there were several more scoring chances with another three points, one from a free taken by Laureena Murphy. This led to a final score of 2-13 to 2-4. Some great displays of hurling for the first game of the year so hopefully this is just the start of the winning for the year!
