Intermediate camogie league round 3

Well done to our Intermediates who are now through to a league semi-final after topping their group due to a win over Rower Inistioge in the 3rd round of the league. The Rower, who are fresh down from Senior travelled to Kilmanagh on a windy Monday 20th July.

From the start the girls fought hard and were determined to pull off a win. Eimear Keoghan was the first to start off the scoring with a well taken point from out the field. Inistioge replied with their first point from play a minute later. A Rower goal put them in the lead and they followed up with a further 3 points putting them 4 points up. Both team’s backs played well keeping the pressure on both sets of forwards. Marie Doheny got the scores flowing for St. Brigid’s again after 10 minutes with no score. The St. Brigid’s girls dominated the last 15 minutes of the 1st half scoring 1-3 unanswered against the wind, Aisling Dunphy scoring the goal from a distance. Further points from Bronagh Neary and Laureena Murphy meant the girls were 2 points up at half time. Half time score 1-6 to 1-4.

The Inistioge girls were first off the mark in the second half scoring their first point two minutes in. Marie Doheny replied to this with a point before having to go off with an injury with Niamh O’Connor coming in to take her place. Excellent work from the St. Brigid’s backs and midfields meant the opposition only scored two more points in the 2nd half. The girls went on to score a further six points with all our forwards and midfield players getting on the scoreboard. It was a tough game where a mixture of young newcomers and experienced players worked well to finish the game with a six point win. Well done to all involved.
