Last Thursday, the 7th of May, our boys played Thomastown in an entertaining match in Kilmanagh. The boys started strongly with early goals from Aaron McEvoy (2) and Elliot Teehan. James Casey and Aidan Cahill were solid in defence together with Ryan Corcoran and Donnacha Cleere who dominated midfield. At HT Team Blue led 3-1 to 0-1.
The 2nd half was a more even affair and scores were hard to come by. Aidan Comerford and Paidí Egan cleared a lot of ball in the backs, while Ben Young and James O’Halloran fought hard up front. Full Time GBC 5-5 Thomastown 0-1.
On Saturday morning, the 9th May, we travelled to James’ Park to play Dicksboro. Playing with the breeze in the first half, our boys got stuck in from the start. Opening scores from Ryan, Aaron and Elliot saw us build up a healthy lead. However Dicksboro came back into it before the half time whistle to leave the score GBC 3-3 Dicksboro 2-1. The 2nd half was end to end stuff with a high standard of hurling from both sides. Dicksboro found the GBC defence hard to breach with goalies Ben Young and later Aaron McEvoy pulling off some fine saves. In midfield Ryan Corcoran had a dominating effect and up front our forwards worked hard throughout. The coaches came away well impressed with the work rate and team work displayed by all of Team Blue. Full Time GBC 6-7 Dicksboro 2-4.
