Report by Tomás McCluskey
Graigue-Ballycallan had their first outing this year with a football match against Freshford in Kilmanagh on Sunday 15th February. With a very low turnout from our panel and suffering from lack of numbers we eventually commenced at 2:30pm.
Freshford won the toss and we played against a harsh chilling wind in the first half. Freshford managed to score 1-2 in the first half with the goal being scored in the first fifteen minute period. Eoin Delahunty was outstanding at full back ably supported by Jason O’Brien in goal and JJ Ryan and Mark Brennan on the full back line. Eamonn Corcoran, Alex McCluskey and Stephen Keoghan stemmed the Freshford attack and instigated the counter attacks. We scored four hard earned points up to half time. Midfield was outstanding with excellent displays from Finn Lanigan and Daniel Lawlor. Our forwards worked hard with Scott Lawlor covering huge ground. He was supported by Jack and Conor Walton, Shane Comerford, Paddy and Tom Brennan.
During the second half period we held Freshford scoreless and with a strong wind in our favour scored 2-5 to bring our final total to 2-9. Oisin Egan and Jack Butler were the subs. Our next match will be this coming Saturday in Urlingford against same.
