The AGM of the Graigue-Ballycallan GAA Club for 2014 took place on Saturday 24th January last in the clubrooms in Tom Ryall Park, Kilmanagh. Club Chairman, Pat Hayes welcomed the large attendance and opened proceedings by remembering all who died during the year including Vice-President of the club Ned Walton.
After a prayer and minutes reflection the meeting proper commenced. In his address the Chairman thanked the Ronan family for their unwavering dedication to the task of maintaining the pitch and club grounds to a standard rarely seen elsewhere. He thanked his fellow officers and committee members for their assistance to him in 2014 and paid particular thanks to all who assisted with the relentless task of fund-raising. He thanked the former Intermediate and Junior team managements for their hard work which culminated in the club retaining their Intermediate status.
After a long wait the club finally launched their new web-site during 2014 and due to the dedication of the web-site committee it has gone from strength to strength and it now stands as a vital information hub for all members near and far he stated. He concluded his address by wishing all the team managements for both adult and juvenile a successful 2015.
It was then the turn of Vice-Chairman Dave O’Neill to take the floor and he commenced by saying it gave him great pleasure to report to the meeting that 2014 had proven to be one of the most successful years to date for the juvenile section of the club. In a rare occurrence, the clubs’ u-14, u-16 and minor teams all contested the Roinn B County Finals at their respective age group. While the u-14s and minors did not come through victorious their efforts had to be complimented as both groups were very young and really performed above themselves. Pride of place, he said had to go to the u-16 panel that brought home the League and Championship double.
He expressed the club’s appreciation to the thirty or so mentors who devote their time unselfishly to the young people in the club and hoped that new volunteers would consider coming forward. He thanked the club’s Coaching Committee for their continued commitment to improving playing standards for all young members.
Club Treasurer, Eileen Heafey delivered a comprehensive financial report and while the cost of running a GAA Club continues to increase, she was happy to report a healthy financial situation. She again thanked all who assisted with fund-raising throughout the year and advised that such efforts would have to continue to ensure the continued smooth operation of the club.
The election of officers took place with no change in the Executive.
