Lisdowney Sevens Quarter Final – 2nd August 2014
The GBC U-13 seven-aside team bowed out to eventual cup winners James Stephens in this afternoon’s quarter final. The Village opened the scoring with two well taken points, before two frees from Oisín Egan brought the sides back level. Then, a well taken goal from Finn Lanigan put our boys ahead 1-02 to 0-03. James Stephens replied quickly with another goal from a tight angle. Finn Lanigan scored a well-taken point to leave the scores 1-05 to 1-03 (GBC) at HT. GBC started the second half very well. Two points from Oisín Egan brought the sides level again to bring GBC well into the game. Yet within three minutes, The Village scored 1-02, leaving the GBC side playing catch-up to the end. A ground strike by Paddy Brennan went just over the bar instead of under! In fairness to the boys, they fought hard. In the end, The Village ran out deserved winners on a score line of 3-09 to 1-06. They say goals win matches. The Village took theirs, we missed three chances and there’s the difference – small margins. Hard luck boys.
