Graigue Ballycallan under 16s played Lisdowney in a tier knockout match in Kilmanagh last Thursday. Despite missing a few players, those who took to the field showed huge character and determination.
Playing against the breeze in the first half, GBC dominated all over the field, with Killian Egan and Aaron Brennan putting over two points each. Daniel Young followed up with the point of the game from fifty yards, before Geordan Davis added one of his trademark points from the left wing. The GBC defence kept Lisdowney to a single point in the first half, with Luke O’Brien, Ger Doheny and Davy Hoyne hurling particularly well. The half time score was GBC 0-6, Lisdowney 0-1.
Lisdowney came more into the game in the second half, scoring two good goals and seven points. A goal from Aaron Brennan kept the boys in touch, while Dylan Lanigan and Geordan Davis added a point each. GBC kept up the pressure right to the end, with Conor Flynn, Tommy Ronan and Dylan Lanigan driving on tirelessly. Although Lisdowney won by two points, GBC were unfortunate not to bag a goal late in the half. More importantly, this was an emphatic example of what can be achieved with the right attitude.
