Lisdowney U-13 Hurling 7’s Report

26th July 2014

First Game

Our U-13s played city side, Dicksboro in their opening match in the Lisdowney 7’s competition this morning. Dicksboro started the better, scoring two early frees, before Simon O’Dwyer replied with two points, one from a side-line cut. Dicksboro managed to get an overlap to score the opening goal, leaving it 1-2 to 0-2 at HT. The introduction of Oisín Egan and Paddy Brennan early in the second half added fresh legs and GBC began to dominate. A couple of frees from Oisín and a “Shane O’ Donnell” type goal by poacher Stephen Keoghan put our boys in front. Dicksboro scored a late point to leave it 1-05 a piece at FT. Five minutes a half of extra time was played. We opened scoring with points from Paddy Brennan and Oisín Egan, before a ground strike from Finn Lanigan was buried in the ‘Boro net. A late Dicksboro penalty was saved on the line by Eamonn Corcoran and cleared to leave the FT score 2-07 to GBC 1-07 to Dicksboro.

Scorers: S.Keoghan 1-01, F. Lanigan 1-0, O. Egan 0-03, S. Dwyer 0-02, P. Brennan 0-01

Second Game

Our next game started at a frantic pace with both teams giving their all. St. Martin’s dominated and deservedly led 2-03 to 0-02 at HT. However a great performance in the second half made this half a joy to watch. Two quick goals by Oisín within five minutes brought the sides level. St. Martin’s were tapping over points as they found the defence of Jason, Alex and Eamon hard to crack. Muckalee were ahead now by three points. With five minutes to go, Simon O’ Dwyer slipped away and went through for a goal. He was dragged down and GBC were awarded a penalty. Oisín stepped up to bury the sliotar, leaving the sides level again. St. Martin’s quickly responded with another point. A high ball came into Paddy Brennan and he pounced for a goal. GBC held out to win by two points. 4-03 to 2-07 the final score. A great morning’s hurling from a team who refused to be beaten. We look forward to next Saturday for the quarter finals. Well done all.
