The u-14 Roinn B Tier 1 League continues at pace with GBC having played two games in the space of three days.
The locals played the Rower-Inistioge in a sunny Tom Ryall Park last Thursday evening. In a fitting tribute to their team mate Lee Ronan, the GBC u-14s, together with all present observed a minutes silence for his late grand-father Paddy Ronan who had been interred earlier that morning.
The locals got their first score on the board early with a well taken goal from Killian Egan. Aaron Brennan added a point from a free. Daniel Lawlor and Alan Wall were getting the better of their opponents and added to the GBC tally with two fine points. Stephen Keoghan in his new position at full-forward hit the Rower for a goal and a point and the GBC were playing well all over the field. However, the Rower responded and two goals shocked the locals who went into the break 2.09 to 2.02 in front.
In the second half the defence rose to the occasion and with Adam O’Brien assisted by the hard-working Kevin Ging and Luke Cullen mopping up any attack from the Rower, and the half-backs of Alex McCluskey and Simon O’Dwyer delivering good ball to the forwards GBC went on a scoring spree. Finn Lanigan and Eamonn Corcoran combined well at midfield. Jason O’Brien in goal pulled off a great save when the Rower-Inistioge pushed for a consolation score in the final stages of the game.
The match ended GBC 5-19 Rower-Inistioge 3-6.

The action moved to Mullinavat on Saturday evening. While recent results suggested that GBC could win maximum points from this encounter, even the locals were surprised at the facile victory that ensued. GBC opened their account from the throw in with Killian Egan putting 1-1 on the board almost immediately. The full forward line of Lee Ronan, Stephen Keoghan and Daniel Lawler were running amok and racked up the scores. The defence led by Adam O’Brien and Aaron Brennan were denying any access for the Mullinavat boys.
Half-time Score: GBC 5-6 Mullinavat 0-1.
The second half was all one way traffic for GBC and the scores continued to come. In the end GBC ran out easy victors.
Final Score: GBC 6-17 Mullinavat 0-3
