Congratulations to our intermediate camogie team who have won the first round of the championship. The game took place on Thursday the 24th April against Lisdowney in Tom Ryall park. From the start the girls were the stronger team and had 3 points on the board before Lisdowney scored. The forwards kept the scores flowing through the first half and the backs defended very well. Five of the forwards had scored before half time. The work rate was high all over the field and this led to a half time score of 15 points to 1-01 in the girl’s favour.
Again in the second half the forwards kept the scores ticking over and scored a further 4-09. This turned out to be too large a tally for Lisdowney to overcome, having scored 2-02 in the second half. There were a few missed goal chances in the first half but the ball found the way to the net four times in the second half due to the excellent passing all the way up through the field from the full back line. Amy O’Connor and Antoinette Power were in top scoring form with 1-06 and 3-02 from play respectively. Each of the subs came on and did very well also. Trojan work from all players meant the final score was 4-24 to 3-03, a more than sufficient win for the girls. The second round is against Paulstown so best of luck to the girls.
